Yes, there is an orchid card.  There are 4 cards for the "flowers" and 4 cards for the "seasons".

So when you have sixteen cards per person how do you hold them up all together?? are there card racks?

How do you have 16 cards on your hand? You're supposed to have only 13? That's perfectly manageable.

The whole fun experience with mahjong is the tactile experience; I love shooting my discard tiles out into the pit and whole gathering and stacking the tiles is the other half of the enjoyment--so how is the four rows stacking done with cards?!

This would be what I see as the simplest method of playing mahjong with cards instead of tiles. Do note this process is not the same as for tiles.While cards could be sorted into walls, I wouldn't recommended this fashion, as they could take up too much table space. (That, and players might have to get dice from another source for determining where to break.)To my knowledge, there is no arbitrary way of playing with cards, so players should make an agreement how to set them for play. Feel free to use the procedure I mention below.Shuffle all the cards (and cut if desired). If a dead-wall partition is considered, take the top 14-16 cards and place this section of cards on the bottom, crosswise from the deck. Consider this smaller set of cards as "stone-dead." Next, from the top of the remaining "living" cards, distribute them as in tiled mahjong: starting with East's first 4 cards, and so on. All quad and bonus replacements are instead taken from the top of the "living" cards.I hope this will help you enjoy playing with cards. I haven't yet played mahjong with cards, but this would be the procedure I'd use.

How to play Chinese card Mahjongg

I shuffle the cards, then dealt cards (13) to each player and (14) to dealer.  The hard part is holding 13 cards in your hand.  Then I set the draw pile (rest of cards) in center of table.  If flowers and completed sets that used discarded cards are placed on table showing grounded.  In hand card sets are held in hand.  I use the Chinese Mahjong rules just like I do with the tiles.
