The Complete Guide to Music Technology Using Cubase 10.5 Paperback – November 13, 2019

I'm learning the guitar and got Cubase 10.5 to create drum and bass lines to play with, and to record my playing and create songs. I tried learning Cubase via video tutorials but the software is too complex to learn with 10min video clips. This book came to the rescue. It is very comprehensive (as far as I can tell) and introduces the Cubase functionality feature by feature. The book also contains useful background info that is not essential but very useful to have. As other commenter's have mentioned, the images are not of great quality but they are good enough when you use the book next to your computer, where you can see the actual Cubase windows.I really like that the book is tailored to the Cubase version I have. There is no searching around in Cubase for features that have moved around in a later version: everything works exactly as described in the book.

This book really helped me to get into Cubase 11. There was a time or two I about quit!But with this book so far, I was able to get to the point that I could record, and even use the drum machine and other MIDI uses. While I have a long ways to go, this book has been invaluable.I knock off a star because of the poor black and white graphics.

I am very new to recording and DAWs and this book has been extremely helpful.

I bought this book about Cubase primarily because I want to be more proficient in using the software. The author does not stop at simply describing how Cubase works, much to my surprise. There are chapters about how synthesizers work, how microphones work, some basic acoustics, some basic music theory, etc. I had initially guessed that the title was hyperbole - Music Technology far exceeds the use of Cubase - but this book really does deliver. I started playing music and recording back in the late 1980s, and some of the topics the author covers gave me a sense of nostalgia...and in some places, an "Aha!" moment where something I have wondered for 30 years suddenly became clear.I recommend this book for almost any musician who wants to record music on a computer. Even if this book focuses on using Cubase to record (and fix the issues in the recordings), there is more than enough other information to be of general use in any recording studio. Many thanks to the author!

It's a good book, well written with clear descriptions. a detailed table of contents, and usable index. However many of the Cubase UI images are very poor - dim, fuzzy, and tiny. I.e. unusable.The author needs to publish a Kindle version with clear, expandable images. I would buy that. Alternatively, publishing the full size images by page number would help tremendously.Regards,Dan.

I can't review this book yet because it just arrived today but I do want to respond to one review I read about the printing quality. OK, the paper is not high gloss heavy weight and the margins are a little tight but all in all I feel it is appropriate for what it is. I bought the book for the content, not the artistic book design features.

This is book all important aspect of creating and recording music.

Yes, I do wish there was a kindle version of the book so that the pictures were of better quality, but I can understandnot wanting to release the book in a digital format with pirating so prevalent. There is obviously a lot of work that has been put into this book, and I have found it VERY helpful. I do not do many reviews, but it is so hard to find goodbooks on Cubase that I thought I should.

Je suis utilisateur de Cubase 10.5 Pro. On arrive intuitivement et avec l'aide du manuel à faire plus que le minimum nécessaire. Mais arrive un moment où l'on doit passer la vitesse supérieure et le manuel de Steinberg n'est pas toujours clair. D'où cet ouvrage en anglais de 611 pages, très bien fait, dont j'apprécie la séquence des chapitres. Les fonctions essentielles de Cubase sont ici exposées clairement : séquençage, harmonisation, un peu de théorie musicale, le fonctionnement des pads d'accords, les arrangements, le sampling, l'éditeur logique et bien d'autres sujets. Reste, pour les non-anglophones, à le faire traduire, il mérite.

What a mighty tome! Everything you ever wanted to know about v10.5, (perfect for Desert Island Discs). The historical bits on synths and sampling are really interesting and show just how much progress has been made since the 70s and 80s. There's a very useful section on music theory too in case you need a bit of a leg up (especially useful if you've got "Getting Started With Dorico 3.5" by the same author). The chapters on the various aspects of Cubase are thorough and easy to grasp, Darren clearly knows his stuff. The book is something to keep next to you when producing your next song so you can easily find the info needed in double quick time. The book is well produced (printed in GB by Amazon) and the screenshots are perfectly adequate. It weighs a ton, but it's worth it's weight in gold. Very highly recommended (I have 10.5 Pro but I'm sure it'll benefit users with lesser editions).

Very informative book. I bought it for my husband & he loves it.

I would recomend this because it has helped me with some aspects of the software but it does not even cover everything in Cubase Elements to my satisfaction. You get chapters on harware synths and samplers and music theory but thats not what you by the book for is it?Some people have complained about the paper quality and some of the visuals but I think its ok and how heavy would it be with better paper. If you can get a very cheap old copy of Cubase VST by Simon Millward Second edition which was for Cubase 3.6, it covers the basics a bit better but of course is very out of date for most things but a good read.

A very well written book - a bit too basic in some places, and uses a lot of space that could have been used for in-depth details on Cubase. Perhpas the title is misleading. I still got plenty, but woudl have liked more
