I bought this to use as storage for my Sony TV built in recorder facility. It works fine if a bit slower than my previous HDD when navigating screens. As others comment i notice it gets extremely hot, very quickly. The performance on playback is fine but from time to time the picture may pixelate for a second. Also if the video is on pause for a while it crashes and the video has to be closed and reopened. During these issues the USB seems to get to it's hottest point. It's not a deal breaker and maybe i could have bought a better spec to resolve these issues but until it overheats it works perfectly and responds well. Not willing to spend more than £40 to find out.

On a USB 3.0 port, it reads at just over 400 MB/s, and writes at just over 100 MB/s. Writing Ubuntu Linux 24.04 full desktop (6.1 GB) took about 50s to write using Etcher. [Most USB3 memory sticks are nowhere near as fast.] For a live installation it boots fast, almost tolerably! It does get warm in use, but not excessively so.The unit is a tight fit mechanically, with nothing on its surface to enhance grip. Care is de rigeur when inserting or removing the drive.
